The Médoc, with Château Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, and other well known châteaux, may be visited within a 2 hours drive.

Such as La Brède, Montesquieu's beautiful Château or, near Langon, the home of François Mauriac 

At Castillon, the Château where Montaigne lived, the Talbot memorial and the annual pageant of the "Bataille de Castillon". 

Edging the natural park of the "massif landais" chiefly planted with pines trees. From there, you may reach thr Bay of Arcachon and its bird reserve, climb up the Dune du Pyla (the highest in Europe) go surfing at Lacanau or take a walk along the immense beaches of fine sand by Atlantic Ocean
